As an avid gamer, I try out most of the emerging games, especially in the FPS genre. However, when in August 2023, I got to know that Delta Force was coming back I was quite excited. I had faint memories of playing the original Delta Force games in my childhood. Hence, being excited about this franchise was for sure. Now that the game is out for PC, and will soon be available for mobile, here are the top things I wish I had known before playing the game.
1. This isn’t entirely a reboot of the OG Delta Force games
At first, I thought it would be a “closer-to-reality” kind of game. I am quite bored playing games like Valorant and Overwatch that has various characters with their abilities. I wanted something old-school but with high-quality visuals. Something like Battlefield with better gameplay and an online experience. This is what I thought Delta Force would be.
Unfortunately, Delta Force is a modern take on FPS shooters taking a big inspiration from games like Valorant and Overwatch. It has a variety of operators to choose from and each has its unique ability. This kind of game rejects the “closer-to-reality” element.
So before playing Delta Force, you should know that this will not be just like the OG games but rather a modern game.
2. You may end up playing Extraction Mode only
The game features two online modes: Extraction Mode and Warfare Mode. Out of the two, most players will stick to the Extractions Mode. The Warfare Mode seemed kind of confusing, and not everyone’s cup of tea. I wish there were more modes to choose from.
For example, there could have been a simpler team deathmatch mode or a capture-the-flag mode. They already have a roaster of different characters, so why not just make a Valorant-type game mode to offer more to players? Unfortunately, for now, most players are going to stick to just two modes.
3. You may have to face cheaters
Unfortunately, no game is free of cheaters. Despite the anti-cheat service of the game, I have encountered cheaters many times during both game modes. Being eliminated by a cheater in extraction mode can be quite exhausting since you lose all your belongings.
Although, on a positive note, the developer is taking strict actions against the cheaters. Not only do they face a permanent ban, but the game is also testing a feature for returning the loot of players who were eliminated by a cheater.
4. Extraction Mode can be frustrating
If you are just sticking to the Operations aka Extraction Mode, be prepared for exhaustion. You lose all your loot when you are eliminated. But I consider it a realistic element, so it’s not a frustrating point for me.
The issue lies in the fact that there are multiple classes of ammo, shields, helmets, etc. For example, a purple ammo will do more damage than a green or blue one. Purple costs more, so for starters you will be sticking to the green one. Unfortunately, you may be playing against players who have purple or even red stuff, so even though your aim is on point, you can be killed easily.
Now you would ask, “Hey, aren’t there are difficulty levels?”
Well, there are supposed to be three modes: Easy, Normal, and Hard. However, the Hard Mode is currently unavailable. Hence, even playing on Easy or Normal Modes, you may occasionally encounter players with a much higher tier of loot than you.
5. The game is quite optimized
As a tech nerd, I have different systems. Previously I had a Ryzen 7 5700U-powered low-tier laptop. I was surprised to see even on this APU-powered laptop, the game ran on an average of 40fps on the lowest settings. Meanwhile, an old GPU like RX570 4GB ran the game easily on 60fps+ on medium settings. Hence, if you have a system that may not have the best tech, there is a big chance that you will be able to at least run it.
I also faced a similar experience on the mobile version. PUBG Mobile, a famous battle royale game, only ran at 60fps settings on my phone. However, Delta Force Mobile was easily able to support the 90fps on the same device. In another post, we covered that the minimum requirements for mobile has been reduced from 4GB RAM to just 3GB RAM. Hence, it is quite an optimized experience on mobile devices as well.
Conclusion: The game is not perfect, but it is still an awesome one
Every game has flaws, and Delta Force certainly has its fair share of cons. Though it is still a fresh game in the market, I have hopes that the developer will do work to enhance the game experience. At the end of the day, it is a free-to-play game, so you can always uninstall if it is not up to your liking.
